PCB maker Zhen Ding Technology has disclosed plans to invest US$15 million to set up a subsidiary in India to engage in backend assembly of PCB modules.

The new investment, to be channeled into India through Zhen Ding's subsidiary in Singapore, is seen as a move to support Apple's expanding deployment in the South Asian country, according to industry sources.

Zhen Ding's second-quarter 2020 revenues soared 51.26% sequentially and 14.85% on year to a new high of NT$26.49 billion (US$901.20 million), with revenues for first-half 2020 rising 3.55% on year to NT$44.003 billion.

The revenue and profit increases in second-half 2020 on efforts of diversifying product lines, the sources said. Pandemic-driven stronger-than-expected demand for tablet and notebook applications helped Zhen Ding boost its market share and offset shrinkages in shipments for handset applications, the sources added.

Zhen Ding is set to start volume production of mimi LED backlighting boards for iPads later in the second half of the year, when the company is also expected to ramp up shipments for new iPhones, the sources said.
